Author's Purpose
Shlosser's purpose in writing this book "Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side Of The All-American Meal" is to demonstrate to his readers that ever since the introduction of fast food in the United States' society, many changes have occurred."The fast food industry has helped to transform not only the American diet, but also outer landscape, economy, workforce and popular culture." The changes fast food industry has brought about have strongly influenced our lifestyle by making eating meals fast, cheap, and easy, and the economy because Americans spend large amounts of money on fast food because of its convenience. In short, it has effected American culture as a whole. Shlosser clearly outlines that he is no fan of fast food due to the mostly negative changes they have brought along in society. "Americans now spend more money on fast food than on higher education, computers or new cars. They spend more on fast food than on movies, books, magazines, newspapers, videos and music combined" This shows that since the introduction of fast food Americans are now spending more on fast food than on basically our education which consists of aspects like higher education, books and newspapers. Apart from spending more on fast food than we do on education, fast food is also a major factor in American obesity and poses a major threat to our health.
